Les Métaboles

Ensemble vocal Les Métaboles

Founded in 2010 at the initiative of Léo Warynski, Les Métaboles is a vocal ensemble made up of professional singers with a passion for the a cappella choral repertoire. Inspired by Henri Dutilleux’s piece Métaboles, the ensemble’s name evokes metamorphosis, symbolizing both the choir’s capacity to reinvent itself across musical styles and its commitment to championing the music of today. Les Métaboles thus explore a wide musical spectrum—from the Renaissance to contemporary creation—and share this artistic commitment with diverse audiences.

Although most of their activity is devoted to a cappella repertoire, Les Métaboles regularly collaborate with orchestras and instrumental ensembles such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the Orchestre National de Metz Grand Est, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, and Ensemble Multilatérale. These collaborations enrich the ensemble’s sonic palette and allow them to tackle works in a variety of formats.

The ensemble is frequently invited to major venues and festivals in France and abroad, including the Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra-Comique in Paris, Festival d’Automne à Paris, Cité musicale–Metz, Les Sommets musicaux de Gstaad, Les Rencontres musicales d’Évian, Staatstheater Mainz, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo.

Deeply committed to the vitality of today’s repertoire, Les Métaboles work actively with living composers through commissions, premieres, and dissemination of new works. Their support for the next generation also includes the ARCO composition academy and training programmes dedicated to young choral conductors.

The ensemble’s discography reflects the diversity and artistic demands of its choices: Another Look (2025), Le Moine et le Voyou (2023), nominated at the 2024 Victoires de la musique awards; The Angels (2021); Jardin féérique (2020); Une nuit américaine (2016); Mysterious Nativity (2014); as well as Singing Ravel (to be released in 2026 with b.records) all testify to a steadfast commitment to creativity and excellence.

The Société Générale Foundation has supported Les Métaboles since 2013, notably accompanying the ensemble in its artistic development.
