Le Concert de la Loge: a double dose of Haydn

loges haydn stabat mater

At the start of 2021, the Concert de la Loge presented an ambitious double album: the complete Parisian symphonies associated with Haydn’s “Stabat Mater”. The ensemble created in 2014 by violinist Julien Chauvin had already started recording the “Parisian Symphonies” in four discs released since 2016. This recent opus called “Haydn: Stabat Mater - Parisian Symphonies no. 84 and no. 86” (Aparté), completes the collection. For the “Stabat Mater”, Julien Chauvin highlighted the new generation of lyrical singers: Canadian soprano Florie Valiquette, alto Adèle Charvet and tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen. They are also accompanied by the vocal ensemble Aedes. The “Stabat Mater” and the “Parisian Symphonies” form a striking musical contrast. On the one hand, the solemnity of the music is at its peak, yet the symphonies have the air of grandiose celebrations.
