DULALA
The association DULALA was founded in 2009 to promote and recognize all forms of multilingualism, particularly in childhood and early childhood, regardless of the languages spoken. Its objectives are to foster academic success through language development, contribute to social cohesion by supporting the construction of a peaceful plural identity, and combat discrimination against languages.
After 15 years of existence, the association has already trained more than 28,000 professionals, and thanks to them, 40,000 children are supported each year.
DULALA produces educational and informational resources that it makes available to educational stakeholders and families through support projects aimed at promoting language development and learning among children, particularly those who are non-native speakers, with a focus on acquiring French. Its approach is based on valuing family languages as a lever to strengthen children’s linguistic and cognitive skills while fostering a more inclusive school environment. In doing so, DULALA helps all children succeed and promotes equal opportunities.
The Société Générale Corporate Foundation supports the continued development and accelerated expansion of the association through two complementary actions:
- Training language and multilingualism coordinators in the regions where the association operates. This involves transferring skills to professionals responsible for teacher training, who will be certified for three years to train others in the pedagogies and resources developed by DULALA within their territories. These coordinators will thus be able to sustain the dynamic initiated by DULALA without the association’s direct intervention.
- Continuing support activities in new territories where welcoming non-native-speaking children is a priority, particularly in priority areas labeled “educational cities,” with which DULALA works closely. These are systemic multi-year projects aimed at supporting all educational stakeholders in the community, parents, and non-native-speaking children through training sessions, four workshops for children, discussion groups for parents, and the provision of resources.
