Opéra National du Rhin

The Opéra national du Rhin stands out for its strong commitment to young people and artistic training. Structured around its three divisions—the opera house in Strasbourg, the ballet in Mulhouse, and the Opera Studio in Colmar—the institution develops a multidisciplinary and innovative range of programmes that meet the contemporary demands of performing‑arts professions.

The Opera Studio in Colmar is a higher‑education programme of excellence dedicated to training emerging artists. Over one to two years, candidates selected from numerous international applicants deepen their artistic and technical skills through master classes, advanced coaching sessions, and a wide variety of workshops. This training responds to the current needs of the opera sector and aims to support the professional integration of a new generation of artists.

Throughout their studies, young artists have the opportunity to perform on stage alongside established professionals, under the direction of renowned conductors and stage directors. This season, they are taking part in productions of La Traviata and The Three Robbers on tour throughout the Grand Est region, as well as several recitals as part of the Heures lyriques. In addition, the young conductor of the Opera Studio assists several productions and will conduct performances of The Tales of Hoffmann at the Opéra de Reims.

Since 2021, the Opéra national du Rhin has also developed an innovative cultural‑outreach programme aimed at audiences far from major metropolitan centres. The Opéra Volant initiative offers a mobile and accessible form of opera designed to be performed in a variety of spaces, with sets that are easily transported and assembled within a single day. The performance is presented entirely in French to ensure clear understanding without the need for surtitles.

The Société Générale Corporate Foundation is proud to be the principal patron of the Opera Studio and a partner of the Opéra Volant since 2022, supporting both the training of emerging artists and the democratization of opera across the region.
