Le Balcon
Founded in 2008 by six students from the Paris Conservatory, Le Balcon brings together instrumentalists and singers trained in all repertoires. Initially in residence at the Église Saint‑Merry, and later at the Théâtre de l’Athénée‑Louis‑Jouvet in Paris, the ensemble has evolved into a transdisciplinary collective: an orchestra, a troupe of singers, composers, videographers, dancers, stage directors — as well as a record label and music publisher.
Le Balcon produces performances drawn from a repertoire spanning every period in the history of music, with a particular predilection for works from the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2018, the ensemble undertook a new phase by embracing more ambitious forms, notably with the production of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s seven‑opera cycle Licht.
The ensemble is also increasingly invited by major international stages, such as the Salzburg Festival, thus consolidating its recognition beyond French borders.
Structured around the delegated production of most of its performances, Le Balcon has gradually built the teams and tools required for this activity. Since its creation, it has placed artistic innovation at the core of its mission, driven by the technical versatility of its members, their expertise in musical technology, instrumental amplification, sound projection, computer and robotic music, and a strong collective appetite for experimentation and radical artistic exploration.
The Société Générale Corporate Foundation has been a partner of the ensemble since 2022.
