ASEDEME
ASEDEME, l’Association Sénégalaise pour la Protection des Enfants Déficients Mentaux, aims to change society’s view of children with intellectual disabilities and to raise public awareness of intellectual disabilities through training and conferences. In order to support children and young adults in their schooling and professional integration, the association has created two specialised medical-educational institutes (day care) in the cities of Dakar and Saint Louis.
The Foundation is supporting the setting up of a speech therapy centre at the Aminata Mbaye Centre in Grand-Yoff, Dakar. The project consists of training and monitoring the Centre’s educational staff in the different processes used by speech therapists to facilitate exchange between children and young people with intellectual disabilities and to encourage their interactions with the outside world.
