The Societe Generale Corporate Foundation Strengthens Its Environmental Commitment with Three New Partnerships

From ocean preservation and the water cycle to forest protection and environmental awareness, the Societe Generale Foundation is reinforcing its environmental efforts. Three new partnerships now complement its existing commitment alongside The Ocean Cleanup, combining field action, education, and collective mobilization.

A Global Commitment to the Environment

As a complement to the Group’s strategy for energy transition, the Societe Generale Corporate Foundation made environmental preservation one of its new areas of focus in 2024, alongside Education and Culture. The Foundation supports the protection of nature—particularly biodiversity and oceans—and raises awareness on these crucial issues.

This commitment initially took shape through a flagship partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, an innovative international organization fighting plastic pollution. Today, this commitment is deepened with three new partnerships that broaden the scope of its action—from protecting aquatic and forest ecosystems to raising environmental awareness in various forms and among diverse audiences.

Supporting the Fondation Terres d’Eau: Reforesting Waterways, Restoring Biodiversity

Created by Voies Navigables de France (VNF) under the aegis of the Fondation du Patrimoine, the Fondation Terres d’Eau works to protect water, biodiversity, and river heritage. As the first sponsor of VNF’s waterway reforestation program, the Societe Generale Foundation is supporting an ambitious regional initiative in France to replant trees along waterways and strengthen riverbanks.

Three projects will be supported in the first year: the Canal du Midi, the Canal between Champagne and Bourgogne, and the Rhône-Rhine Canal. These initiatives aim to preserve ecosystems, restore ecological continuity, and raise public awareness of the environmental and heritage value of these landscapes.

Supporting the Fondation pour la Nature et l’Homme: Reconnecting Children with Nature

A long-standing advocate for environmental awareness and civic engagement, the Fondation pour la Nature et l’Homme (FNH) works to change behaviors and promote concrete solutions for ecological transition. The Societe Generale Foundation shares these goals and has partnered with FNH in a multi-year collaboration to develop new educational and civic initiatives.

Two programs are now supported by the Foundation:
•    Launching in 2026, Learning with Nature is a free online training course for teachers and extracurricular educators, designed to support outdoor education and democratize access to nature-based learning.
•    The second initiative supports the continuation of I Act for Nature, a platform connecting volunteers with local environmental organizations. Currently, over 1,500 organizations are listed and 4,800 activities are offered across France, empowering citizens to take action.

Supporting Stimultania: Debating Environmental Issues Through Art Photography

The Foundation is partnering with Stimultania, a photography center based in Strasbourg and Givors, known for its work with schools and communities that are often excluded from cultural offerings and broader society, such as individuals in the justice system or asylum seekers. The organization uses photography as a tool for inclusion, dialogue, and critical thinking.

Stimultania develops educational and interactive tools that encourage participation and collective reflection. With its support, the Societe Generale Foundation is backing an original approach: using art as a lever to raise awareness of major societal issues, particularly environmental ones.

The partnership focuses on developing the Environment module of the game LES MOTS DU CLIC, which invites participants to debate using 15 photographs by various artists addressing environmental themes. In groups of two to seven players, with or without a facilitator, participants share perspectives, select word cards, and collaboratively write a short critique of the image.

“With these three new partnerships, we remain true to the Foundation’s spirit: supporting innovative initiatives with high impact potential and helping them grow by engaging the entire Societe Generale ecosystem—far beyond financial support alone. These partnerships also pave the way for engagement missions for our staff members, who are eager to get involved in environmental issues that matter to them”.

In addition, in 2025, as part of its regional sponsorship program, the Foundation supported two calls for projects in collaboration with SG SMC and SG Grand Ouest. These initiatives aimed to support local projects at the intersection of Education and Environment. The Foundation also supported the Inspiring Young Europeans Award in the Environment category, awarded in September 2025.
