Insula camerata

Since its creation in 2012, Insula orchestra has established itself through its commitment to historically informed performance, focusing on Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic repertoire, while also championing lesser‑known works, particularly those by women composers such as Louise Farrenc, Emilie Mayer, and Clara Schumann. Performing on period instruments and drawing on extensive research, the orchestra combines historical rigor with innovation, notably through immersive projects using virtual reality.

In keeping with this approach, Insula camerata was created as a professional training academy dedicated to period instruments. This initiative aims to pass on specialized expertise to young musicians by offering them immersion in symphonic programs with double orchestra and personalized support to ease their entry into the professional world and refine their skills as orchestral performers. Insula camerata thus addresses a vital need for professionalization in an artistic field that is both demanding and constantly evolving. The young graduates will also form an autonomous chamber ensemble.

The Société Générale Corporate Foundation has been supporting Insula camerata since 2025, accompanying the launch and development of the academy’s first seasons. This support continues a long‑standing partnership with projects led by Laurence Equilbey: the Foundation sponsored accentus from 2004 to 2012, then Insula orchestra from 2013 to 2016. This renewed commitment reflects the Foundation’s lasting desire to support innovative and complementary artistic initiatives, contributing to the influence of early music and to the professional training of artists.
