Fondation Royaumont
As the first French public‑interest foundation dedicated to culture, the Royaumont Foundation has supported intellectuals and artists for over 60 years. Founded in 1964 by Henry and Isabel Goüin, who donated their abbey, it promotes creation and research in the fields of music, dance, and the humanities.
The Foundation structures its activities around three artistic hubs — Voice & Repertoire, Musical Creation, and Choreographic Creation — as well as two transversal departments dedicated to Territorial Outreach and Libraries & Resources. It places particular emphasis on knowledge transmission, dialogue between artistic disciplines, and historically informed interpretation of the repertoire.
The Royaumont Abbey, a heritage landmark located in Île‑de‑France, welcomes nearly 60,000 visitors each year and offers a digital visitor pathway accessible to all. It also provides accommodation that respects the spirit of the site, open to the public on weekends.
The International Centre for Music and Dance Artists organises a season of concerts and performances, along with workshops, exhibitions, and encounters, supporting the presentation of creations both in France and abroad. At the heart of its mission, the Foundation supports young artists through workshops, mentoring, and residencies. In 2024, 483 singers, instrumentalists, composers, choreographers, dancers, artists from other disciplines, and researchers came to work at the abbey.
In 2025, 175 of them benefited from individual or group residencies. This programme was strengthened in 2025 with the launch of the “Fabrique Royaumont,” combining project‑development residencies (“Incubateurs”) with practical implementation periods.
Over the past forty years, Royaumont Abbey has become an essential centre for professional training for new generations of artists, who come to learn from leading masters. Each summer, the Royaumont Campus brings together around one hundred young talents for three‑week sessions devoted to specific themes tailored to each discipline and repertoire.
Since 2024, the Société Générale Corporate Foundation has been supporting the Royaumont Foundation in its mission to train and professionally integrate young artists, thereby strengthening the diversity and creativity of tomorrow’s talents.
