Compagnie Miroirs Etendus

Founded in 2015 by Emmanuel Quinchez, Miroirs Étendus is a structure dedicated to operatic and musical creation that offers a contemporary and expanded vision of opera: a sung, hybrid form that tells a story and embraces all aesthetics. At the heart of Miroirs Étendus is a flexible musical ensemble grounded in a modern understanding of opera and the concert form. Based in the Hauts-de-France region, it is driven by Fiona Monbet (violinist, principal conductor), Romain Louveau (pianist and artistic director), Othman Louati (associate composer), and Emmanuel Quinchez.

Dedicated to today’s music, Miroirs Étendus explores contemporary repertoires all the way to new creations, commissioning several works from composers each year. It revisits written music by combining acoustic music — often amplified — with electronic music.

Miroirs Étendus has led major projects such as An Index of Metals by Fausto Romitelli, City Life by Christophe Chassol and Steve Reich, Orphée et Eurydice after Gluck, Graal Théâtre after Kaija Saariaho and Edvard Grieg, Les Ailes du désir by Othman Louati (produced by the co[opéra]tive in 2024), and Così fan tutti, a reinterpretation of Mozart’s opera by Maël Bailly and Antonio Cuenca Ruiz.

Miroirs Étendus also organizes the Là-Haut biennial, an event dedicated to contemporary operatic creation held every two years in the Hauts-de-France region — notably in Saint-Omer and Tourcoing — in partnership with numerous cultural institutions in the area.

Each Miroirs Étendus season invites audiences to view opera with fresh eyes, through recompositions of repertoire works, contemporary creations, as well as chamber music concerts and augmented recitals, always driven by a spirit of innovation and openness.

In 2025, the Société Générale corporate foundation became a patron of Miroirs Étendus, supporting the company in the development of its artistic projects and in the dissemination of a new vision of operatic art.
